Highlighters: Liquid vs Powder

Highlighters: Liquid vs Powder

Highlighters are a bit of a new discovery for me. I had always wondered how the likes of Miranda Kerr and Kylie Jenner achieved such a glow from their cheek bones and have since set about to discover the perfect highlighter.

It seems that there are two broad tones that highlighters can take. They are either pinky and iridescent or golden Champaign in colour. That’s not the only decision you’ll have to make, there are also loads of different formulas – liquid, cream, powder – I really didn’t know where to start.

With a little help from some of my favourite beauty bloggers (Essie Button and Lily Pebbles) I plumped for two highlighters that couldn’t be more different from one another but both promising to bring some life and light to my pale complexion.

Nars Illuminator in Copacabana is on the pinky spectrum of highlighters and as it is a creamy liquid, can also be us mixed with your regular foundation to bring some life to your complexion. To apply I squeeze the tiniest amount onto the back of my hand and then use my fingertips to dab onto my cheekbones for a subtle sheen.

theBalm Mary Lou Manizer is a honey hued powder highlighter that’s gives an ever so subtle sheen. I find the powder formula much easier to apply and use the Real Techniques contour brush to sweep a tiny amount onto the very top of my cheekbones to catch the light.

What’s your favourite highlighter?
